How Mica Nozzle Heaters Work

Mica nozzle heaters generate heat using a precision wound nickel-chromium resistance element embedded within high-grade mica insulation. When electrical power is applied, heat is transferred evenly through the mica insulation into the stainless steel outer sheath before being conducted directly into the machine nozzle.

The close-fitting band design ensures efficient thermal contact, providing rapid heat-up, accurate temperature control and uniform heat distribution around the nozzle circumference.

This construction offers an excellent balance of performance, durability and cost-effectiveness, making mica nozzle heaters one of the most widely used heating solutions within the plastics processing industry.

Types of Nozzle Heater

Types

Mica Insulated Nozzle Heaters – Highest application temperatures < 300oC / 572oF

For Low to medium heat applications. Low cost and not as robust compared with other styles of nozzle heaters.

Our stock range of Mica Nozzle Heaters available to buy from our web store are terminated with twin 1000mm steel braided leads, low profile exit i.e. one lead exiting each side of the clamping gap.

Other sizes and lead exits / types are available from our UK bespoke manufacturing factory.

Soloheat Stock Mica Nozzle Heater

Sealed nozzle heaters – Highest application temperatures > 300oC / 572oF

For medium to high heat applications, particularly where moisture and plastic drool is more prevalent.

Sealed nozzle heaters are mineral insulated and typically sheathed in brass or stainless steel with a brazed stainless steel braided lead exit to minimise risk of damage from moisture and plastic ingress.

Sealed Nozzle Heaters - Mineral Insulated Heaters

Coil nozzle heaters – Highest application temperatures > 750oC / 1382oF

For higher heat applications. Higher cost but more robust than other styles of nozzle heaters. Mineral Insulated Coil nozzle heaters can last around ten times longer than a srandard mica nozzle heater thus offering a longer term savings on cheaper nozzle heaters. They are manufactured from square section incoloy tubing which provides excellent surface contact and heat transfer. This style of heater can be produced with an integrated thermocouple and stainless steel outer clamping band, if required.
