Custom Heated Hoses for Industrial Applications
Soloheat supplies custom manufactured industrial heated hoses for the controlled transfer of temperature-sensitive liquids and process media. Heated hoses are widely used throughout plastics processing, extrusion, packaging, hot-melt, chemical, food and general industrial applications where the material temperature must be maintained during transfer.
Hoses can be manufactured to suit new installations or as replacements for existing OEM assemblies, with the hose length, bore, operating temperature, voltage, end fittings, temperature sensor and electrical connections specified to suit the application.

Typical Heated Hose Applications
- Thermoplastic extrusion and polymer processing
- Co-extrusion, piggyback extrusion and dual-durometer extrusion
- Food treatment and transfer
- Packaging and hot-melt equipment
- Wax and resin transfer systems
- Polyurethane foaming equipment
- Insulated glass machinery
- Gas analysis and measuring equipment
- Chemical dosing systems
- Bitumen, under-seal and heavy fuel oil transfer

Heated Hoses – How They’re Made

Heating Conductors (Element)
A precision resistance heating element is spirally wound around the stainless steel pressure braid of the hose. The heating element is enclosed within high-temperature glass fibre insulation. A nickel-plated copper braid provides electrical screening and a continuous protective earth.
Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor is positioned in direct contact with the stainless steel pressure braid beneath the heating element for accurate monitoring of hose temperature. The standard sensor is a Type J thermocouple, with alternatives including Type K and PT100 RTD available to suit the control system.
Thermal Insulation
Multiple layers of high-temperature glass fibre insulation surround the heating element and sensor to minimise heat loss. A silicone foam insulating layer further improves thermal efficiency and helps reduce the external surface temperature.
Outer Protective Braiding
The insulated assembly is protected by a durable polyamide braided sleeve for resistance to abrasion and general wear. Stainless steel overbraid can be specified where increased mechanical protection is required.
Hose End Caps & Electrical Connections
Bonded end caps contain and protect the hose construction. Typically one end incorporates the heating-element termination and connection cable, together with temperature-sensor wiring where specified.
Heated hoses can be supplied with a 1.5 m connection cable and optional industrial plug arrangement. Matching panel-mounted sockets can also be supplied for connection to compatible temperature controllers or spare machine heating zones.
Connection Fittings
A wide range of end fittings is available. Standard thread options include BSP and metric connections, with additional thread types available on request. Common connection styles include plain flanged ends and universal 60° conical female connections.
Custom & Replacement Heated Hoses
Soloheat can manufacture heated hoses for new equipment and replacement applications. Where an original drawing is unavailable, photographs, an existing hose or the key dimensional and electrical information are often sufficient to establish the required specification.
Operating temperature depends on the hose construction and application. Standard heated hoses can typically be specified for operating temperatures up to around 250°C, with specialist designs considered where higher temperatures are required.
Information Required for a Heated Hose Quotation
For the quickest technical review and quotation, please provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Overall hose length
- Internal bore size
- Material or media being transferred
- Required operating temperature
- Supply voltage
- Required wattage, if known
- Maximum operating pressure
- Connection fitting and thread type at each end
- Temperature sensor type – Type J, Type K, PT100 or other
- Power and sensor lead lengths
- Required electrical plug or connector
- Required outer protection, including stainless steel overbraid where appropriate
Replacing an existing hose? Send photographs showing the complete hose, both end fittings, electrical connector and any identification plate or markings. An existing sample can also be assessed.
Heated Hoses FAQs
What is a heated hose?
A heated hose is a flexible electrically heated transfer hose designed to maintain the temperature of plastics, adhesives, waxes, bitumen and other temperature-sensitive process media while they are transferred between equipment.
Can heated hoses be manufactured to custom lengths?
Yes. Soloheat can supply custom lengths and bore sizes to suit individual machinery and process requirements.
Do heated hoses include temperature sensors?
Yes. Integrated thermocouples or RTD sensors can be specified to allow the hose temperature to be monitored and controlled independently.
Can Soloheat replace an original OEM heated hose?
In many cases, yes. Hose dimensions, fittings, electrical connections and temperature sensing can often be reproduced from an existing sample, drawing, photographs or specification.
Can damaged heated hoses be repaired?
Some external fittings or electrical connections may be repairable depending on the hose condition. Where the heating element or internal construction has failed, replacement will often be the more appropriate solution.
